In case you were wondering how crazy NASCAR pit crews were, one crew member just caught on fire and kept doing his job. Sammy Smith came to pit and get tires and fuel. As they were fueling up, it spilled out and began to combust.
Fires happen on pit road relatively often. However, this one got out of control, quickly. The pit crew member went to the wall, as his firesuit ignited and asked to be extinguished. Of course, the AMR Safety team worked quickly.
By the end of the video, the pit crew member who was on fire was asking the safety crew to stop extinguishing so he could finish his stop.
Bad-- and a little crazy. That’s what makes a NASCAR pit crew member.
Pit crew members are TOUGH.

This is a scary moment. However, the Joe Gibbs Racing pit crew stayed calm, cool, and collected. Ryan Zunk, the name of the tire changer, is one tough dude. Most people catch on fire at work, they’re going home for at least the rest of the day, right? Pit crew catches on fire at work, they keep putting tires on!
Not Zunk, he’s all about getting the job done no matter what happens in the pit.
Shoutout to Ryan and his entire crew. That shows just how dedicated these athletes are. Sammy Smith has been fast for most of the day and will need a great pit crew to finish out this race. A little excitement in his final start with JGR.
This Xfinity Series championship race is going to come down to the final laps. John Hunter Nemechek, Cole Custer, Sam Mayer, and Justin Allgaier are giving it all they’ve got out there on the track. Only one can be champion, and the laps are starting to wind down.
