Gushchin Has Day-to-Day Injury, There’s ‘Hope’ He Can Play in AHL All-Star Game
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The San Jose Sharks have injury questions about All-Stars at both the NHL and the AHL.

Tomas Hertl believes that he will be ready for the NHL All-Star Game on Feb. 3 in Toronto.

Hertl missed part of the second period in the San Jose Sharks’ last game on Jan. 27 and practice today. He’s questionable for the Sharks’ game on Tuesday.

If Hertl were to miss out, it’s likely that the Sharks wouldn’t have a representative at the NHL All-Star Game.

Meanwhile, Danil Gushchin, the San Jose Barracuda’s lone representative for the AHL All-Star Game on Feb. 5 in San Jose, left the Jan. 26 game early and missed the contest the next night.

According to multiple sources, Gushchin is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, and he’s questionable for the AHL All-Star Game: “The hope is he is available for the All-Star event.”

If Gushchin were to miss out, the San Jose Sharks’ AHL affiliate is almost certain to have a representative handy. It’s hard to imagine an All-Star Game in your backyard without a rep.

Nathan Todd, Cole Cassels, Leon Gawanke, and Shakir Mukhamadullin are among those enjoying solid campaigns for the Barracuda.

The Barracuda play on Feb. 2 and 3 in Abbotsford, right before AHL All-Star weekend.

Hopefully, we’ll have a better sense of Gushchin’s status by then.
